Handling an Injured Pet

When your dog or cat is injured he must be handled with care. You want to avoid unintentionally hurting or frightening your pet further. As a result, do not attempt to pick your pet up, until you know where the injury is located. Once you are aware of the type of injury, you’ll be able to determine how to best move your pet without causing further pain. Avoid placing your face or hands near your pet’s mouth. Although you may think it is unlikely that your pet will bite or growl at you, this is always a possibility when a dog is in pain. The best way to comfort your pet is to talk softly and gently stroke his side or back. Be sure to take your pet to a veterinarian immediately.
